Know What Your Goals Are and Why
The first step for making the most of mentorship really applies to pursing any serious career satisfaction.
Know what you want.
And why.
In order to set goals and hope to be happy with accomplishing those goals you need to know yourself and what really motivates you. Start thinking about what you want to do. Maybe that's become a manager or start your own startup or be the most technical person in the room.
But take some time to think about why you want those things. And be honest with yourself. Does running a company really seem like something you want to do or does it just sound prestigious? Do you want that FANG job because you'd enjoy it or does it just seem like it would pay well? (By the way, it's ok for "make lots of money" to be your goal. But just be honest with yourself about it.)
If you want to set goals that will be worth working hard at, the first step is really understanding what you want. And why.
