Figure Out How To Work Towards Your Goals

Continuing on with making the most of mentorship, you've now figured out what your goals are so now it's time to achieve them, right?

Slow down a bit.

Take a minute to think about the best way to work towards your goals. Make sure that your approach is incremental, actionable, and accountable.

Incremental steps are small. You can take them right away and see if they're working (and if they're leading you in a direction you want to be going.)

Creating actionable steps often involves clarifying vague intentions. Instead of saying you want to "look for leadership opportunities", make it a goal to ask your manager about leading the next major project. It should be easy to figure out if you've done the work or not.

From here, make sure you can hold yourself accountable. This is sometimes as simple as just sharing your plans with someone else like a mentor or manager. Setting self-imposed deadlines can also keep you accountable to these plans.

By taking a little time to think about how you will approach your goals you'll end up much more likely to work on them in a productive way.
